Roberta Piket Trio

"Roberta Piket’s trio found precisely the right mix of fire and restraint"
-All About Jazz New York (live concert review)
Roberta's new piano trio, featuring sensitive and swinging drummer Billy Mintz, sets a new standard in subtle yet swinging trio interaction. For three consecutive years the trio has delighted audiences along the West coast of the US from San Diego to Seattle during their annual fall tour. They have also toured Spain twice, performing at both the 2006 and 2007 Madrid Jazz Festivals.

In addition to performing originals by Billy and Roberta, whose very different writing styles serve as a complement to one another, the trio plays rarely performed compositions by Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, several underplayed standards from the popular American songbook, and a polymetric arrangement of The Fifth Dimension's "Up, Up And Away" that has become a "special request" among the trio's fans. The music ranges from lyrical to swinging to free-wheeling, and every performance is filled with authentic joy and creativity.

The adventurous new CD from the Roberta Piket Trio offers a heart-rending version of Cole Porter’s “So In Love”, a daring arrangement of the Jimmy Webb classic “Up, Up and Away” and Roberta's vocal debut on the Billy Mintz original "Destiny" featuring Rich Perry on tenor saxophone.
